Greetings from the Planning Cell.

In order to keep our church family informed we are starting a regular column in the Sunday bulletin.  We would like to encourage you to take the time to read them and prayerfully think about the issues we are considering.  It is impossible for us to share the entire meeting (3 ½ hours worth) but we think it is critical to share some of the bigger issues we face as a Planning Cell.  We met Wednesday evening and started with some time in prayer.   We spent a good hour on Mission committee items and we are all so impressed with the work they have done.  Great job to all who are serving on that committee.  We also continued our discussion on restarting small groups.  As a planning cell we all agree on the benefits of small groups.  Our main concern is the form and structure of the groups.  We don’t want to start them and then watch them fizzle out in a few months.  We would appreciate input from the congregation as we prayerfully consider small groups.  Another topic of discussion was the work done on the Steiner house.  For those of you who don’t know, when the Steiner’s went to the States for Christmas a group from the church broke into their house and did some home repairs.  Daryl and Kristin had been living in a house that had no plumbing in the kitchen and the washroom plumbing wasn’t working properly.  They had kitchen cabinets but no countertop and the floors were plywood.  Well, after a week of work the house is very livable.  The plumbing and wiring has been re-done in the kitchen and there are new fixtures in the washroom.  Countertops have been bought and installed.  New flooring has been laid and fresh paint is on the walls.  The cost of supplies came out of the benevolence budget and the countless man hours came from the loving, caring servants who saw a need and were willing to do what was needed to help.  What amazing blessings we have in this fellowship.  Thank you to everyone who pitched in with food, repairs, cleaning, painting and the financial support needed to do this good work.  Things that we will be considering in the next few meetings will include the need for a congregational meeting, Communication and Financial Reporting, and renewal of the Planning Cell.  There were many other things discussed but those will have to saved for the next update.

A THEORY OF CREATION

God created the mule, and told him, "You will be mule, working constantly from dusk to dawn, carrying heavy loads on your back. You will eat grass and lack intelligence. You will live for 50 years."
The mule answered, "To live like this for 50 years is too much. Please, give me no more than 20." And it was so.

Then God created the dog, and told him, "You will hold vigilance over the dwellings of Man, to whom you will be his greatest companion. You will eat his table scraps and live for 25 years."

And the dog responded, "Lord, to live 25 years as a dog like that is too much. Please, no more than 10 years." And it was so.

God then created the monkey, and told him, "You are monkey. You shall swing from tree to tree, acting like an idiot. You will be funny, and you shall live for 20 years."

And the monkey responded, "Lord, to live 20 years as the clown of the world is too much. Please, Lord, give me no more than 10 years." And it was so.

Finally, God created Man and told him, "You are Man, the only rational being that walks the earth. You will use your intelligence to have mastery over the creatures of the world. You will dominate the earth and live for 20 years."

And the man responded, "Lord, to be Man for only 20 years is too little. Please, Lord, give me the 30 years the mule refused, the 15 years the dog refused, and the 10 years the monkey rejected." And it was so.

And so God made Man to live 20 years as a man, then marry and live 30 years like a mule working and carrying heavy loads on his back. Then, he is to have children and live 15 years as a dog, guarding his house and eating the leftovers after they empty the pantry; then, in his old age, to live 10 years as a monkey, acting like an idiot to amuse his grand children.

DON'T GIVE UP!

Terrible sins come and go
But God will always love you so
Put your trust in Jesus Christ
And you will live a wonderful life

When things are at a terrible height
Don't give up without a fight
God will be there to hold your hand
And carry you across all lands

Lay down your life at the feet of the Lord
And you will feel as if you've soared
Let the Holy Spirit flow through you
And you'll live a life completely new
        - A life of beauty and of grace
And a bright new life you will face
